NITHYA KALYANA PERUMAL TEMPLE

The Nithya Kalyana Perumal Temple is located 42 kms from Chennai and 16 kms from Mahabalipuram. This belongs to the series of holy shrines that make up the 100 temples known as Tirupathy. Every year devotees flock to this temple to be blessed with marital bliss. Any devotee who prays here with

sincerity will be blessed with marriage. Many young men and women who have been unmarried for some reason come here seeking blessings.

The tradition is that the person seeking marriage has to wear a garland and go round the shrine a prescribed number of times. Once the prayers are answered and the devotee gets married, the couple must come with the wedding garlands, and tie them to a tree behind the shrine.

There is an interesting legend relating to the presiding deity here Aadi Varaga Perumal. Kalava Rishi had 360 daughters and hearing the rishi’s prayers the Lord descended from heaven and married all of them, one each day. Finally, he merged them all into one woman Akila Valli Naachiyaar. Since He went through 360 marriages in succession, He came to be known as Nithya Kalyana Perumal.

As the Lord has his consort, Lakshmi on his left, the temple is also known as Tiruvidandhai. It was also known as Sreepuri, Varagapuri, Asurakula Kala Nalloor, Vaamagaveepuri.

Time : Morning 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Evening 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tel : 954114-2472235
