16TH DAY AFTER MARRIAGE

The 16th day after marriage is very significant for Kapu Naidus. This is considered a divine number and also believed to be the number of days a bride takes to understand her husband’s family. The bride takes a bath and wears a new sari for this function. Two mangalsutras are tied around the bride’s neck during the wedding and these are united on a common

thread 16 days after the wedding. The two plates which form the pendants of the mangalsutra are separated with a few black or golden beads so that they do not clash with each other. This symbolizes the harmony between the two families.
